Life in Tychus Findlay’s combat suit
Yes, yes… Stacraft. Legendary computer game praised for it’s great cinematics, storyline and characters. But every diamond has a flaw. Sometimes it is funny to take a look upon nitty-gritty details, that Blizzard seemingly did not really bother to think about. Jump into nearest spaceship, take popcorn and enjoy the ride.
Free but imprisoned
For those you don’t know who is Tychus Findlay, it is a Stacraft 2 badass, old friend of rebel and main hero Jim Raynor. Tychus was set into a prison for a lifetime. However he made a deal with Arcturus Mengsk, in exchange for his freedom. But things were not easy… He was imprisoned into a combat-suit, from which he would be released after he makes his part of deal done. So technically… yes, he was free, but locked in a combat suit, from which he could not get away.
And this is kind a wierd… Can you imagine yourself to be in the situation? This is basically what would be happening.
Torture chamber instead of a prison cell
Being locked in such suit would mean, you cannot wash your body properly. Why we must wash often? Our skin is peeling every moment. This means, that we stock on our body pile of dead skin cells and sweat. Basically our body would gradually pile up free proteins and sugar on top of our skin. Bacteria would have a feast on your body every day. This would cause horrendous smell, skin infections, terrible itching, or even fungi-friendly environment. On top of that, yeasts and mildews love dark and wet environment… and as the game later showed us, marines have environment-isolated combat suits which keep them safe from the very different external planetary environments – non breathable atmosphere, biological contamination, high temperature and so on.
Isolated from external air, dark and wet environment in which his body would stay constantly, physical health of Tychus would have been put into great risk. Speaking about his mental health, it would not stay in peace too… Constant physical discomfort and annoying pain would make Tychus a madman in a very short amount of time.
Perhaps the combat suit is really a hotel room?
Think about it. If Tychus was supposed to be prisoner at least for next few months, his combat-suit would have to be equipped accordingly. But how? As mentioned above, unless Tychus Findlay’s suit would have some kind of fancy air conditioning, mildews, yeasts or fungi would flourish on his body, especially the parts of body, which produce the most sweat.
And this is just one difficulty of such a prison life… Imagine you can’t take a shower or go to toilet, wash your hands, cut hair, clip the nails, shave a beard… Seriously, how would he function more than few days? Or does that suit handles somehow magically all his needs instead?
Unluckily for our curious minds, this does not StarCraft specify. Hopefully, I left you with something important to contemplate about. If you know any interesting details on this topic please write to us, so we can share the precious knowledge to the world!
